It’s not clear how many takes it took to get that “fo’ shiz, fo’ shiz” just right in the recording studio. But however many it was, the actress Michelle Williams landed on a line reading that has resonated on social media. Ms. Williams narrates how the pop singer had an abortion while she was dating Mr. Timberlake, started drinking alcohol with her mother at age 14 and how she navigated her 13-year conservatorship. Simon & Schuster, which published “The Woman in Me,” did not immediately respond to questions about how Ms. Williams was selected to read Ms. Spears’s memoir. But in the world of audiobooks, the idea for many such pairings often comes from the producers.

Andrea Riseborough’s character Leslie is an outcast in her small West Texas town, where she’s known by locals for having squandered a lottery jackpot and her relationship with her son. In the run-up to this year’s Academy Awards, the most talked-about film is one that barely anybody has seen. “To Leslie,” an indie drama about an alcoholic mother seeking redemption, initially grossed only about $27,000 in an abbreviated theatrical release on its way to the video-on-demand market. When Oscar nominations were announced in January, many in Hollywood were surprised to see the film’s star, Andrea Riseborough, on the list of best actress nominees with more expected names Ana de Armas, Cate Blanchett, Michelle Williams and Michelle Yeoh.
Box office receipts can rise as much as 75% in the weeks following a best picture nomination, according to Comscore data. Golden Globe Award winners Steven Spielberg and Martin McDonagh pose with their prizes at the 80th edition of the annual show on Jan. 10, 2023, in Beverly Hills. Spielberg's autobiographical coming-of-age film "The Fabelmans" won best drama film and the dark friendship tale "The Banshees of Inisherin," captured best film, comedy or musical. The Globes' would-be comeback ended like many Globes ceremonies before it: with a triumphant Spielberg. Nominated 14 times by the Globes for best director, Spielberg also won the honor for the third time. Carmichael kicked off the 80th Golden Globes from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, with little of the fanfare that usually opens such ceremonies.
